Surron How to… change your riser bar and grips
Everyone likes to be different and the world of Surron is no exception. With so many modifications and upgrades available, there is a huge amount that CAN be modified, which WON’T affect your warranty! The most common and one of the simplest mods are to the riser bars and hand grips!
Want to change these parts? Here’s how in our first ever ‘How to’!
Tools needed:
1 x 4mm Allen key
1 x Philips head screwdriver
A squirt of brake cleaner or window cleaner
Time: around 10 minutes, Difficulty: Easy
Firstly, make sure you’re Surron is secure before commencing any work!
1 – Take a 4mm Allen key and undo the two bolts on each of the brake levers, let the levers hang loose. Put these bolts and ‘U’ brackets somewhere safe!
2 – Using your Philips screwdriver, undo the two screws for the LCD display and detach this from the riser bar.
3 – move the light by loosening the 4mm Allen bolts either side of the light. This will make it easier to remove the riser!
4 – undo the four 4mm Allen bolts from the riser fixing bracket.
5 – remove the two 4mm Allen bolts from the throttle housing and slide this off the riser. The riser is now ready to replace
6 – Remove the grips, These simply twist off, but may help with a spray of brake cleaner (be careful with brake cleaner!) or window cleaner between the riser and the inner grip.
Refit in reverse order!!! (If you don’t fit the throttle onto the riser first, then there isn’t enough length in the throttle cable and you’ll have to start the refit all over again!
7 – When refitting the riser bar, there is a standard position using the marks on the riser (with the cross just being visible through the bracket, or refit the new riser to your comfort!)
Pat yourself on the back for doing a damn fine job. Make tea to celebrate!
