We’ve been big fans of the Stark VARG since day one. It was one of the first electric motocross bikes to actually feel like a complete package — something you could ride fast and not immediately wish you were back on a gas bike. So naturally, we’ve been watching closely to see what version 2.0 (or in this case, 1.2) would bring.

And here it is: the new Stark VARG MX 1.2. Not a complete redesign, but more of a thoughtful refinement. As expected, it looks like Stark has taken the new EX powertrain and slid it into the VARG MX platform — and honestly, that’s exactly what we were hoping for.
What’s New?
The VARG MX 1.2 gets a range of updates across the board: improved powertrain efficiency, a new high-strength steel frame that drops nearly a kilo, and better thermal management to push longer and harder. There’s also a new 7.2kWh battery pack that bumps range by about 20%, which should help riders looking to stack more motos without rushing to the charger.

The Arkenstone handlebar-mounted display is back — but smarter. It’s still basically a ruggedized Android phone, but it connects deeper with the bike’s system to allow quick changes to ride maps, brake feel, and power delivery. The new “Laps” feature adds GPS tracking and live timing directly from the bar, developed in partnership with a major mapping provider.
In other words, Stark is doubling down on tech.

Familiar Form, Evolved Feel
The core specs are still nuts: 80hp peak output, 978Nm at the rear wheel, and a curb weight of just 118kg. You still get full power adjustability from 10hp to 80hp, which makes this thing just as approachable for beginners as it is for pros. It’s the kind of versatility that gas bikes just can’t replicate.
The frame has been updated with a new steel alloy that’s twice the strength of traditional chromoly — a move that adds flex where you want it and stiffness where you need it, especially around the shock mounts. KYB suspension gets a retune, the chain guide is stiffer, and wiring has been cleaned up with overmolded and internally routed cables.
You also now get options for Pirelli or Dunlop tires (tubes or mousse), updated seat grip textures, a titanium bolt kit if you want to drop more weight, and your choice of a traditional foot brake or handlebar-operated Brembo rear.
Is It a Massive Update?
Not exactly. But that’s not a bad thing.

The original VARG MX was already one of the most advanced electric dirt bikes on the market. This update doesn’t reinvent the platform — it sharpens it. The improvements are incremental, but they’re the kind of changes that add up: better thermal efficiency, longer ride time, smarter electronics, and cleaner packaging. It’s clear this is a bike built from real-world testing and rider feedback.
Stark’s racing program, led by two-time world champ Sébastien Tortelli, continues to play a big role in development. And with pros like Kevin Windham putting in laps and giving it the nod, the 1.2 feels like a maturing platform that’s here to stay.
Our Take on the Varg MX 1.2
If you already loved the VARG — and we did — the 1.2 just gives you more reasons to stay on board. Better range, cleaner design, and more intelligence built into the bike itself. It may not be a revolutionary leap, but it’s a strong signal that Stark is still pushing the bar forward in a meaningful way.
Whether it’s enough to convince new riders or racers to finally make the electric switch? That remains to be seen. But with every update, the argument gets stronger.
